Wellness

Today and over the course of the next seven weeks, I will explore the seven elements of wellness that can improve both an individual and a company: spiritual, social, physical, intellectual, emotional, occupational, and environmental.  There is a plethora of research to support that each of these dimensions are both professionally and personally valuable.

The elements are integrated as in the picture above. Each is important to success. If a person has occupational success but is an emotional wreck it will ultimately impact their physical health and social relationships. The individual who is living in an unsafe environment will be less likely to excel in school and have creative ideas or stimulating thoughts on the job.  Spirituality is often considered only a belief in God, and my bias is that this is a good place to start; however, it is more about a belief in something bigger than oneself.

Next week we will explore physical health. We will look at how investing in diet and exercise as an individual and organization may result in a healthier you, a healthier company, and a healthier community.

Begin a “Wellness Journal” and start taking notes of the things you are doing for your spiritual, social, physical, intellectual, emotional, occupational, and environmental health. This will serve as a baseline for our journey ahead.
