Keep Learning
Warren Buffett believes in investing in yourself according to numerous quotes referenced here in a recent Inc. article. I am certainly not going to disagree with the Oracle of Omaha however, I will add to his advice. Many, I might say most, individuals do not know what we don’t know. We are inclined to believe that we have the requisite knowledge to continue to lead an organization.
We are in need of continuing to push ourselves to learn and grow. If we are not learning and growing we are falling behind. Life comes at us fast and there is so much new information we have to process that knowing where to start can be overwhelming.
As a leader it is imperative that you help your team and its members learn-to-learn. The personal computer has been real for about 50 years. The iPhone was introduced in 2007, a mere 15-years ago, and now is a ubiquitous part of our life. Robots are delivering food, work from home is reality, Zoom protocol is necessary, and there is an App for that is a real thing.
Learning what needs to be learned should be where a leader is devoting 10 percent of their time. This is not about being in a meeting, but acquiring and processing information.
What is it that you as a leader need to be learning?
